"John Wesley Abbitt died at his home near Mount's Run, some seven or eight miles east of town, this morning. The cause of his death was stomach trouble and he had been in poor health for some time. Mr. Abbitt was seventy three years of age and leaves a wife and eleven children. The funeral will be held at Mount's Run tomorrow, Rev. Shirley conducting the services." Lebanon Reporter Nov. 5, 1895.

"Born in Dearborn Co., Ind. on the 3rd day of April 1823, and died Nov. 5th, 1895 age 72. At the age of three, he, with his parents moved to Decatur Co. Here he resided until 1842, when he moved to this county. He married America Sedwick Oct. 9, 1845. They had born unto them fourteen children; four boys and ten girls. There are no living four boys and seven girls." Lebanon Pioneer Nov. 21, 1895.

Obituary of America incorrectly states he died Nov. 5, 1896. Abbitt is sometimes spelled Abbott.
