Mr. John A. VanderArk entered eternal life March 27, 2007. His earthly journey of nearly a century began in the Gallatin valley of Montana in 1912. Christian education was to be his life's work. His own education, from the one room school house in Montana to advanced degrees from Calvin College and University of Montana, was reflected in his career that encompassed teaching at the small school in Plains, Montana, to serving as principal at Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa, to director of Christian Schools International in Grand Rapids.

His wife of 64 years, Julia VerWolf, died in 2001. Their four daughters, Bonnie (Ronald) Stuk, Karen (John) Wynbeek, Lynda (Johannes) Barendse Witte, and Patricia Roek, survive them as do his sisters, Nelle VanderArk of Grand Rapids, Evelyn (Allan) Kimm of Manhattan, Montana; sisters-in-law, Marie VanderArk, Evelyn VanderArk Vos; eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Raybrook Manor with Rev. Wilbert Van Dyk officiating. Interment Rest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the Zaagman Memorial Chapel to greet friends and relatives Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and at Raybrook Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the VanderArk Family Scholarship Fund at Calvin College. Zaagman Memorial Chapel
