Daughter of Joshua Benson 1746 – 1805 and Sarah Ellis. Note that her father Joshua served in the American Revolution and never returned to his family in Massachusetts. Instead, he settled in South Carolina, with a second (concurrent) wife and child.

Mary married Joshua Atwood on May 25, 1793 in Carver, Plymouth county, Massachusetts. They had children:
