Mountaineers Head For Crash Scene

MILAN, Italy - Itaian [sic] Alpine troops were to begin efforts today to bring down the bodies of a score of Americans lost in a plane crash last November in the Alps south of Cuneo.

The air rescue center at Milan said it would take five or six days to get the victims down from the 9,000-foot crags where their C-47 crashed.

The rescue center said 23 persons were aboard, but U.S. Army earlier announcements had set the number at 20.

Il Corriere Della Sera, a Milan newspaper, said four bodies have been identified. These were Lt. Wesley B. Fleming of Pampa, Tex., the pilot; Sgt. Abram S. Atkins, Sperryville, Va., radio operator; Sgt. Harmon Newell, Kermit, Tex., engineer; and Marie T. Hahn, Ardsley, N.Y., a woman civilian employe of the War Deparment [sic].

Other passengers listed included: Sgt. Doyle R. Gustin, Apache, Okla.
