5 members of Wyoming family killed in car-truck accident

PROVO, UTAH

An Evanston, Wyo., bishop and four members of his family were killed in a car-semitrailer truck accident in Provo Canyon March 10.
Bishop Lee Smith Barker, 45, Evanston 7th Ward, was westbound on narrow U.S. 189 about 4 p.m. when an eastbound semitrailer truck rounded a curve and tipped over onto his car, police said.
The impact of the collision pushed the Barker car into the Provo River, according to police. Divers worked for several hours to recover the car and the victims' bodies. The truck driver was not injured.
In addition to Bishop Barker, victims of the accident were his wife, LeRhea, 40, his son, William, 16, and daughters Janalee, 15, and Ann, 8. A third daughter, Marsha, 19, was attending school at BYU-Hawaii when the accident occurred.
Bishop Barker, a vice president of First Wyoming Bank in Evanston, had served as bishop for just over a year.
His first counselor, John Everett, described Bishop Barker as "a bishop that was more of a friend to people, who got down and did things they like to do."
Bishop Barker was a generous man who frequently invited other families to family home evening, and allowed members to use a ranch he owned outside town for camping, Everett said.
