Joe was born in 1930 in Fort Worth to Bob and Arlene Howington. He grew up in Fort Worth, graduating from Arlington Heights, Hardin-Simmons, and Southwestern Baptist Seminary.
He was a member of Travis Avenue Baptist Church where he served as greeter to pre-school children and parents. He worked with third-graders and also served as a greeter for the worship service. He cherished many friendships through these associations.
Survivors: He was blessed with a family who loved him: his wife of 58 years, Joy; sons, Robert and his wife, Melanie, Joe and his wife, Patricia; daughter, Cindy and her husband, Jay George; one grandson; eight granddaughters; sister, Irma Adams; brothers, Jerry and Robert Howington.
