A special sweet lady

Zeedie's sister Ernestine Steinmetz Find A Grave Memorial #43863877 and brother-in-law, Nicholas Steinmetz, Find A Grave Memorial #43863824 lived in the home on the corner of the Tegler property and are buried in Mt. Olivet.

The 1930 Census showed Zeedie's mother Sophia Hennaberg, living with them. Sophia was born April 1850 in Germany and had come to America around 1870. She married Ernest F. Henneberg (b. May 1826 in Germany) in 1871. She had 8 living children in 1900. Four were listed: Ernestine, Lillian, Otellia (which is Zeedie), and Marie. The others were in the 1885 Kansas Census: Emma, Minnie, Hannah, and Edith) Sophia was a widow in 1930.

George (age 25) and Zeedie (age 23) were married about 1916. Though they never had any children of their own, they took care of many that came to help on their ranch. Zeedie cooked on a wood cook stove and they heated their home with a potbelly stove. She made mouth watering pies and three large meals a day. She enjoyed music. She was a hard worker.

Mrs. Zeedie Tegeler was presented the "Ranch Wife of the Year award for 1971."
