Abilene, Texas -- Billyjo Roberson, 84 of Floydada, formerly of Abilene passed away Thursday, April 1 in Lubbock. She was born February 25, 1926 to Clint and Ruth Stewart of Capps, Texas. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1942 and entered college for a short time. She married Bev Roberson on December 20, 1947. They were married for 57 years. Education was very important to Billyjo. She returned to college and graduated from McMurry College in 1964 and taught for twenty years at Rochester, Old Glory, Weinert, and Aspermont. Billyjo was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles, word games, playing FreeCell, and E-mail. Music was very important in her life. She took piano lessons, participated in choir and sang in a sextet at Camp Barkley and on the radio. She later taught music lessons and played organ at her church. She helped with GA's, Vacation Bible School, taught Sunday School, and was a 4-H leader. She also loved history and worked hard to keep family history alive with pictures, facts, and stories. She was a very knowledgeable sports fan and enjoyed all sports. She told many times of being able to see "Say Hey" Willie Mays play in person for the San Francisco Giants at Candlestick Park. She was fortunate to witness the infamous National Championship Game between Texas and Notre Dame at Cotton Bowl. She also saw the historic tackle by Dickie Moegle of Rice when he came off the bench to illegally tackle the Alabama runningback who was on his way for a Crimson Tide touchdown. She could tell the story like you were there. Billyjo was preceded in death by her parents, Clint and Ruth Stewart; her husband Bev; and sons Edwin Roberson and Stewart Roberson. She is survived by her daughter Melissa and son-in-law Nick Long of Floydada, Texas; granddaughters Laura Roberson and Jessica Roberson both of Temple, Texas; and Molly Long of Big Lake, Texas; as well as many, many dear friends. Funeral services will be Monday, April 5 at 10:00 am at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel at 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Burial will be at 2:00 pm at Rochester, Texas Cemetery.
