Obituary

The subject of this brief sketch was born in Ohio August 1813 , and died December 27 1898, aged 85 years, 3 months and 17 days.

The deceased came to Wapello Co. in 1851 and knew from personal experience the hardships and prevations of the early pioneers.
In early life he was United in marriage Miss Eliza Jane Jernden, and from this union five children were born, two sons and three daughters all of whom are still living. While his children were yet small he was at the hand of death, deprived of the companion of his early life and the love of his early family. He was twice married later in life and in each instance his companion proceded him across the dark river. Mr. Travis's home for a number of years has been with his daughter, Mrs. John Roberts , near Dudley, Wapello Co., but a few days before his death he went to Wayne Co., Iowa where he was suddenly stricken with sickness and his death.

When he was 13 years of age he united with the Methodist Episcopal church and in his last illness when he realized that death was near he manifested with joy that he would be with that Saviour whom he trusted.
