Newton Breeden, 70, of Winborn Chapel Community, Greene County, Mississippi, passed away on Friday, September 22 at home peacefully in his sleep.

Newton "Boots" was born in Hazlehurst, Mississippi on September 15, 1925, the youngest son of the late Charlie William Breeden and Georgia Mae Middleton. He joined the U.S. Merchant Marines in 1943 when he turned 18 years old.

He married Allie Jean Dickerson on November 19, 1954 at Winborn Chapel Methodist Church by Reverend Baggett, and together they lived in Mobile, Alabama from 1954 until 1959. During that time, he worked for Alcoa Shipping. Since 1960, he and Allie Jean lived in the Winborn Chapel Community in Greene County, Mississippi, he then became a fulltime shipbuilder at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula for the next thirty years until he retired in 1990.

Newton was an avid gardener, farmer, and fisherman who also enjoyed long weekend drives with his wife and children. He had a love of family and was quick to put food on the table for any family or friends. Newton lived his life in service to others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Georgia, two brothers Robert and Hezzi Kiah; and his sister Thelma Mae Parrett.

Newton was survived by his wife Allie Jean Dickerson Breeden, two sons, Richard (Terri) Breeden of Winborn Chapel Community and John (Melinda) Breeden of Japan, his three grandchildren: Jarrod Breeden, Emily Breeden, and Katelyn Breeden. He is also survived by two brothers Charlie (Doris) Breeden and Jack "S.Q." (Helen) Breeden, two sisters, Betty Sue Johnson and Mildred Matthews, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The funeral was held 11:00 am on Monday, September 25 at Winborn Chapel United Methodist Church, Winborn Chapel Road, Lucedale, MS. Burial was in Winborn Chapel Cemetery following the services.
