Served in the Japan Navy.
Moved to Hawaii where he worked on a pineapple farm. They had two daughter while living in Hawaii, that they took back to Japan to live with relatives before coming to California. They lived in Fresno, Stockton and Sacramento where Sawataro worked on asparagus farms.
They moved to Paul in 1915. The sugar factory furnished them with equipment to help them get started in farming. He liked Idaho and insisted on staying. He died at the age of 79 from stomach cancer.
