William (Bill) Hershberger, Resident of Los Gatos, Was born in Wyoming on Oct. 24, 1923 and passed away on Saturday, April 3 at the age of 86 in Los Gatos surrounded by his family. He was married twice, first to Molette Hershberger for 36 years until she passed away of cancer and to Jean Brown Hershberger until her death in 1996. Bill served in the US Navy during WWII serving as a medic on a Mine Sweeper. He graduated from San Jose State University and went to work for Oliver M. Johnson machine shop where he spent his entire business career of 45 years. He started as a Business Manager and eventually became a part owner of the business. In 1959 Bill earned the top position in the Masonic Friendship Lodge of Worshipful Master its highest honor. Bill was a member and leader with the Boy Scouts, Indian Guides, and the Happy Wonderers. After the children were grown many of its members became his best friends. Bill was a very active member of his Church, Self Realization Fellowship in Los Gatos, and volunteered his time in the Los Gatos community to assist seniors and children. Bill was a loving father, Stepfather and grandfather.
A memorial service will be held at Darling-Fischer Chapel of the Hills, 615 N. Santa Cruz Ave., Los Gatos on Saturday, April 10 at 2:00 PM. Reception to follow immediately after.
Regarding Bill's Burial: Records indicate he was buried at Los Gatos Memorial Park but, Los Gatos's records say his cremains were sent to Oak Hill Memorial Park. Oak Hill Memorial Park does not have any record of him. Still hoping someone who knows where he is laid to rest will send in an edit so the rest of us can know where he is! Thanks!
