Theodore Clark was born about 1837 in Augusta, Maine to William Clark and his wife Ann Smith Clark. Theodore was the 3rd of five sons. He also had a sister. He enlisted at the age of 27. He served in Company G of the Maine 1st Cavalry. He was captured at Reams Station, Virginia on 26 June 1864. He was taken to Andersonville, where he died 1 November 1864. Some records say the 31 October 1864 was his death date. His cause of death is recorded as scorbutus

The war caused a great deal of suffering for his family. His younger brother, Roland died of disease in Baton Rouge 23 February 1863 at the age of 18.

Another brother Henry was wounded on July 18 1863 at Fort Wagner, S.C. Henry suffered from his wounds for the rest of his life and died a premature age in Togus Soldiers Home in Maine at the age of 54.
