EX-RESIDENT OF CITY DIES
RITES SATURDAY FOR MRS. CALONA YOUNG
Mrs. Calona Young, 79, a resident of Fairland and a former Decatur county woman, passed away at 3 a.m. Thursday in a nursing home in Shelbyville. She had been ill for the past year.
Born in Estel county, Ky., on May 21, 1878, she was the daughter of Allen and Eliza Thomas.
On April 2, 1902, she was married to Wesley Barnes following which she resided in Greensburg for a number of years. Her husband, who preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 1931, was identified with the former Indianapolis and Cincinnati Traction Company both at Greensburg and Shelbyville.
She was married to Charles F. Young, of Fairland, on Feb. 9, 1941.
Mrs. Young was a member of the Mt. Auburn Christian church in Shelby county. She was affiliated with the Order of Eastern Star at Shelbyville.
Besides the husband, she is survived by a son, Thomas C. Barnes, of Glenn Ellyn, Ill., who is identified with a Chicago bank; three step-children, Frank Young, of Shelby county, Maurice Young, of Merchantsville, N.J. and Mrs. Ruth Brogmeaux, of Bloomington; a sister, Mrs. Dora Wilson, of Xenia, Ohio; two grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and one step-great grandchild and two nieces.
Funeral services will be held in the Ewing mortuary of Shelbyville at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Friends may call at the mortuary after the noon hour on Friday.
Burial will be in South Park cemetery in Greensburg.
