Matilda Elizabeth Thomas was my g grandmother, she was born to William Anderson Rodgers and Mary Orander in Ward SC. She was the 3rd of 9 children. She married John Armstrong Thomas and they had 7 children. Lizzie, William, Mary Bell, Frankie, Fannie Ruth(my grandmother), Idell and Olivia.
She and John are buried in Elmwood Cemetary in Columbia SC.

Funeral services for Mrs. Matilda Elizabeth Rodgers Thomas, 78, of 1129 Olympia Ave., will be held at 3:30 pm this afternoon from Southside Baptist Church. The Rev. W.L. Hellams, the Rev. D. R. Dickerson and the Rev. Henry Wingard will officate. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Thomas died Thursday at the Baptist Hospital after an extended illness.
Mrs. Thomas had lived in Columbia for 29 years, coming here from Saluda County.
Survivors include one son, William A. Thomas of Columbia; six daughters, Mrs. C. E. Powell, and Mrs. Ira Trotter, both of Columbia; Mrs. W. M. Lorick of Cayce, Mrs. E.D. Wright of Lexington, Mrs. P.E. Murphy of Florence and Mrs. L. E. Williamson of Williston; five brothers, H.L. Rodgers, J.P. Rodgers and W.A.Rodgers, all of Ward, and J.R. Rodgers and N.E. Rodgers, both of Edgefield; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Otto Bouye, T.K. Swygert, Howard Jackson, W.F. Berry, Norman Stroud and Herbert Bryant.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. J. Gordon Seastrunk, T. L. Lucas, Fred Mallonee, E. C.Fox, A.C. Shirey, R.L. Goodman, W.L.Blackston, Virgil Millwood, J. A. Snelling, C.W. Thornton, B.f. Lewis, O.T.
