She attended school in Lebanon and graduated from Lebanon High School with the class of 1934. She then attended Drury College and the University of Missouri at Columbia, where she majored in architecture. Her knowledge in architecture helped her to maintain the many properties and commercial buildings she acquired in the Lebanon, community.
In 1944, Wanda and her mother owned a large empty warehouse in Lebanon, and converted it to a roller skating rink; it was remodeled several times, and expanded, until turning into a recreational center. They built a bowling alley next door and called their business, Roll-A-Rena and Bowl-A-Rena.
The recreation center was a success in the community, and Wanda had the pleasure of watching several generations of customers enjoy her facility.
After years in the smaller facility, she discovered the need for a skating rink with more parking available. In 1984 , the construction was completed on three areas of land located on city route I-44; they named it Enchanted Valley Interskate, because of the valley and scenic creek on one side and the Interstate on the other. It was a successful source of entertainment for many families and Wanda took great pride in knowing she was part of it.
Although she was a hard working home town girl, as she referred to herself, she was also involved in many organizations. She was a fifty tear member of the Lebanon Chapter #259 order of the Eastern Star, board member of the Downtown Business District, planning and zoning committee, and Laclede County Historical Society. Wanda took great pride in her civic duties, and strived for a successful community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons Richard in 1992, and Milton in 2003, and one gr-grandson Weston Young in 2004.
An incredibly successful business woman, with classic look and a dynamite smile, she was a caring grandmother and loyal friend. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
