Robert Glenn Appel, 64, was a son of John and Emma (Jones) Appel. He married Judith Madara on August 19, 1999.

He was a 1955 graduate of Woodland High School and later obtained an associate's degree in business management from Brown's Business College in Peoria. He farmed and raised purebred Charolais cattle for 21 years. He was an agent for Canale Real Estate in Streator. He retired from Redwing Co. after 22 years. Mr. Appel and his wife sold Wilderness Log Homes.

He was a past president of Illinois Charolais Breeders Association, Streator Kiwanis Club, Woodland Board of Education and Woodland Education Foundation. He was past board chairman of Manville Methodist Church and past director of Association of Food Industries. He was a member of American Breeders Association. He was a past member of the National Honey Board, National Honey Packers and Dealers Association, the Honey Industrial Council, the American Beekeeping Association, National Beekeeping Federation, Southeastern Peanut Growers Association, and Streator YM-YWCA Board.

He attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Streator. He was inducted into the Woodland High School Hall of Fame in 1998.

Mr. Appel is survived by seven children, Kevin (Gayle) Appel, Jan Holmes, Kent Appel, Kurt Appel, Kyle (Julie) Appel, Joy (Kurt) Lorch, and Jennifer (Scott) Blair, step-children Beth (Chuck) Glisson, Jamie (Todd) Galyen, Amy (Tim) Wissen, Rob (Staci) Mallick, and Michael (Stephanie) Mallick, one brother, LaVerne Appel,one sister, Beulah McCully, 14 grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren. and seven nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
