Sarah Lucy was a daughter of John and Luct Davis of Stone Mile, Northfleet and the sister of Richard, John, James,Mary, Edward, Mary and Thomas.

She was born in 1836 and baptised on 18th April 1836 at St Botolph's Church, Northfleet.

She married Thomas Handley on Christmas Day 1857 at St Botolph's Church, Northfleet and they lived at 4 Huggens Place, Northfleet. They had nine children, William James 1861, Jane Sarah 1864, Lucy Mary Ann 1868, Edward John 1871, James William 1874, Thomas George 1858, Sarah Lucy 1859, Mary Ann 1878 and (?), 1876.

She was diagnosed with the wasting disease phthisis (pulmonary tuberculosis) in 1874. She died of the disease on 30th April 1875 at 4 The Creek, Northfleet, aged forty. Her death certificate records that she had been ill for eighteen months. She was buried with her daughter Mary Ann on 6th May 1875 in the churchyard of St Botolph's Church, Northfleet. Her grave is unmarked.
