My Great-great-grandfather William Wright was killed in 1882 while working on the Oregon Short Line as it pushed westward. He was killed when a blast went off prematurely and was buried alongside the tracks. Eyewitnesses say that his grave was visible from the passenger cars of the train. Family records say he was killed about 40 miles west of American Falls (this may not be accurate). Other family records say his remains were moved when "the dam was built". For some time I thought this might have been when the first American Falls Dam was built. Now I wonder if it was when the Minidoka Dam was constructed (about 1906). There is a flow of vocanic rock that comes close to the rail grade about where the Power County / Minidoka County line is. This might have been a place where blasting was done. Suppose William was buried just inside the Power County line? Likely he would be moved to the nearest cemetery. Would this have been Falls View? I have created this memorial in the hopes that the grave on Block A, Lot 59, Plot 5 might actually be where he is laid to rest. The Idaho Falls Regional Family History Center lists this grave as #ID 163023, Wright, unknown gender, and no other information.

I WILL GIVE A REWARD OF $150.00 TO THE FIRST ONE WHO CAN PROVE THAT THIS IS THE GRAVE OF MY GREAT-GREAT-GRANDFATER WILLIAM HENRY WRIGHT.
