Notes for Joseph Jindrich:
(provided by William L. Jindrich Jr.)
Joseph came to the United States with his father and mother and arrived on July 4, 1883. They moved accross the U.S. settling in N.W. Johnson County. Joseph homesteaded the parcel of land (approximately 20 acres) that lies just to the North of Hala Cemetary in Monroe Township. He and his wife, Blanche, built the buildings which stood until the spring of 1987 when all but the barn and grainery were burned. Now on the site of Joe's home stands a new house.
Joseph and Blanche moved to S. Amana where they farmed until 1947 when they retired to Conroy. In addition to farming Joe became very proficicent as a carpenter and numerous houses and outbuildings still stand in testimony to this today. Joe in retirement was an inventor and an avid gardner. He lived in Conroy until 1970 when he moved to Iowa City.
Services were held Monday May 14, 1979 at George L. Gay Funeral Home, Iowa City. Rosary was held at 8 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
