Cherryvale Daily Republican

The funeral of Mrs. Josephine Burge was held Tuesday afternoon at the home of her son, S. A. Burge in Burlington, the services being in charge of Rev. W. C. Melendy of the Christian church in the absence of Rev. Mr. Lawellin of the Methodis church who had been called to Humboldt to a funeral there. Mr. Melendy gave a excellent funeral address and appropriate music was furnished by Miss Evalena Conrad and Mrs. Wm. M. Scott. Burial was in the Baker cemetery north West of Burlington. The Cherrvale Daily Republican, owned and edited by her son Will R. Burge, says: Mrs Josephine Burge, Mother of Will R. Burge, died at the home of her son, 417 North Neosho, at 9 o'clock this morning. She had been ill but four days. There apparently was no suffering during her last illness. She retired early last Wednesday night, tired and worn out. She was unalbe to leave her bed Thursday and on Friday passed into a coma from which she never rallied. As the hours passed she became weaker until the end came this morning. Mrs. Burge would have been 78 years old on the last day of December. Her son, S. A. Burge and her daughter, Mrs. Mary Knoblock, came to her bedside from Burlington on Christmas day. The son returned home yesterday, but the daughter remained. Mrs. Burge had lived in Cherryvale two and one-hald years, coming here to make her home with her son, Will, when her husband died in March, 1923. She is survied by one daughter, Mrs. Mary Knoblock, of Burlington, and two sons, S. A. Burge, of Burlington, and W. R. Burge, this city. Three children, Frank, Minnie and Geddis Burge preceeded her in death.
