After Benjamin's death, Cynthia married John Fleming on October 29, 1868, also in Union County, Ohio.
Benjamin C. Grubb enlisted for three years in the 30th Regiment, Ohio Infantry on August 30, 1862, in Jerome, Ohio. On his Volunteer Enlistment form, his occupation is listed as painter. His physical description was recorded as blue eyes, dark hair, fair complexion, height 5 feet 6 inches.
His name appears on a Muster-out Roll, Little Rock, Arkansas, dated August 13, 1865. It states under remarks: "Hon. vet. Died May 9, 1863 at R. Hosp., Young's Point, LA of Typhoid Fever."
"Young's Point, a small town on the Mississippi River, was occupied by the Union Army of the Tennessee after the Battle of Chickasaw Bayou on December 27-29, 1862. It was used as a staging area for the Arkansas Post Expedition and as a headquarters by Maj. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant and of the XV Corps during the winter of 1862-63. Young's Point was used as a major supply depot and trans-shipping point throughout the Vicksburg campaign." (from Wikipedia)
As his legal representative, his son, William Grubb, was given his father's personal effects on May, 1863, in Millikens Bend, Louisiana. His official discharge from the Army is also dated May 9, 1863, at the Reg. Hospital, Millikens Bend, Louisiana.
On October 14, 1863, his widow, Cynthia A. Grubb, filed a "Widow's Claim for Pension," application for Pension No. 23,780.
