Louise Andree Treyvoux was born in the 1er arrondisement in Paris, France on 11 January 1893 according to the birth record found in the Paris Archives. Her parents were Louis Antoine Treyvoux and Marie Celestine Eugenie Burlot (sometimes listed as “Chalumeau” instead of “Burlot” in some records). They were furriers in Paris for an unknown period of time. Louis came from Lyon and Celestine was born in Cervon.
Andree’s mother immigrated without her family to New York City in 1903 to work for Revillon Freres (Brothers) a French fur and luxury goods company. On 24 October 1904 Andree, age 11, arrived on the ship, La Gascogne, in New York with her father, Louis, and sister, Estelle Suzanne. Her father’s brother, Charles L. Treyvoux, a passenger agent for the French Line, was their contact in New York City. Andree’s father died in New York 10 February 1905 from a lung disease which may have been due to his constant work with fur during his lifetime. I believe their young son, Marcel Edmond, may have been left behind in Paris with his Aunt Estelle Burlot Seulin. He eventually immigrated to the United States on 9 August 1908.
Andree was first married to Maurice Anatole Fuller in “City Hall” on 28 October 1911 in New York City. She was 18 years old. In the 1920 federal census Andree Fuller was listed as “single” and her profession was “stenographer”. It appears from various directories that she mostly worked in cosmetology on or near Fifth Ave., New York City.
She was married next, to Leland Merrill Carver in New York City on 23 September 1922 at age 29. A Manhattan directory in 1925 indicates that she was the secretary/treasurer of Parfuma de Volnay Inc. located on 5th Ave. and was living in New Jersey. She wrote advertisements for this Paris perfume. I found a few of her ads in the 1926 New Yorker magazine. In 1929 her residence was in Plainfield, New Jersey. In the 1930 federal census Andree is not living with Leland and was found listed in Manhattan with her mother.
Andree’s mother passed away 26 August 1938 in Detroit, Michigan while living with her daughter, Suzanne Chevrolet. Andree was 45 years old.
We are still researching the facts surrounding the death of Andree’s younger brother Marcel Edmond Treyvoux in Paris during the Occupation in World War II. Although not found in the Paris Archives, another source states 24 October 1941 was his death date. Andree was 48 years old.
In 1957 at about age 64, Andree was listed in the Manhattan Directory with no profession. Had she retired? By 1960 she was living in Daytona Beach, Florida with her third husband Albert Richard Reuter. The date and place of her third marriage is unknown at this time.
In 1966 Andree’s older sister, Suzanne Treyvoux Chevrolet, died 15 September 1966. (See Find A Grave memorial #27723380.) At this time Andree was 73 years old.
According to the Social Security Applications and Claims Index recently found on ancestry.com, Andree’s death date was 28 February 1984 at the age of 91. It’s not proved yet that she was buried in Greenwood Cemetery located at Daytona Beach, Volusia County, Florida. We’re currently looking for her death record. The plaque shown here is shared with her third husband “Albert R Reuter” who pre-deceased her in 1982.
On behalf of our family I would like to thank Robert Stanley Orrell for creating this memorial and providing a picture of the headstone in 2010 on Find A Grave which helped me to find the resting place of my father’s cousin, Andree.
