Mrs. Vick Bertoli Succumbs Friday
Mrs. Vick Bertoli died at 2:30 a.m. Friday, at the King's Daughters Hospital where she had been since last Sunday. She was 65.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church with the Rev. Father John O'Brien officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Brookhaven Funeral Home in charge.
The former Miss Faustina Laurini and widow of Vick Bertoli, she was a member of the Altar Society of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church. Mr. and Mrs. Bertoli were one of two couples who came to the United States together. They came to Brookhaven about 1906.
Mrs. Bertoli is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Terrell Martin and Mrs. Luther C. Grice, both of Brookhaven.
She leaves a sister who lives in Genoa, and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers at the funeral services were Elmer Soloman, Victor Becker, Joe Tuminello, Richard Fibert, Sam Robbins and Roy Malta.

My maternal grandparents, Vitorrio & Faustina Bertoli arrived aboard the Princess Irene and began the immigration process at 2:20 P.M. They had spent 15 days at sea and came ashore with $20 in thier pockets ($437 today). The Bertoli family traveled to New Orleans, then came to Brookhaven and eventually settled in the old home place on South 1st Street. This home was financed by Ms. Rosalie Serios' father at a cost of $2,700 in 1927 ($29,780.95 today). Today there are 6 nieces and 2 nephews living in the area of Busseto south of Milano, Italy.
