Hugh Sherman Bailey born 14 June 1885 in Baptist Valley, Tazewell County, Virginia, died 13 January 1960, married Carrie Ann Dye 29 June 1911 (born 23 March 1894 died 23 March 1965), 9 June 1911 at Maxwell Virginia. The following is a history of Hugh Sherman By his daughter, Katherine Marrs. "My dad was taught Telegraphy by Mrs. Draper, Richlands, Virginia and obtained a job with the Norfolk and Western Railroad as Station Agent and Telegraph operator. My dad and mother lived in Richlands, Virginia where dad worked for four years. Their oldest son, Hugh Sherman, Jr. was born there. Also I was born there. Mom and dad with their two children moved to Vivian, West Virginia in 1915, where dad was also employed by N & W RR. My younger sister, Ella Mae and brother Ralph Graham were born there. Dad transferred to War, West Virginia in 1925 where he and mom lived until dad's retirement in 1950. Dad was Mayor of the town of War for eight years, from 1927 to 1935.
