Moses Short was born in Canada in January 1846 the son of Frank & Catherine Short. Moses came to New York State from Canada around 1874. The 1900 census report lists his nationality as Irish. He married Francis Laveck and moved in on a small farm with her parents at Brashier Iron Works, St. Lawrence Co. NY. He remained there until their deaths in 1880 & 1882. He appears to have then assumed ownership of the farm as he remained there until his death.
Per the local newspaper, Moses had returned home from the hospital in Ogdensburg, NY after having had a hand amputated. It was reported that he never seemed to regain his strength and died on 4-14-1902. Moses's will, left the farm to son Jesse. He is buried at St Patrick's cemetery, Hogansburg, NY
