Martha (Holme) Edwards was born in Philadelphia, probably at Lower Dublin township. Based on her age at death (36) she was born in 1741 rather than 1731. She was the daughter of John and Jane (Morgan) Holme of Philadelphia. She married Marshall Edwards, son of Alexander and Ann (Marshall) Edwards on Oct 13, 1768. They had 5 children: Marshall, Evan, Enoch, Margaret and Ann.

Martha died Feb 20, 1777 at age 36. Her husband died less than one year later on Feb. 4, 1778. Their orphaned children were entrusted to Rev. Samuel Jones of this church, who petitioned and appeared before the Continental Congress on January 10, 1782 to seek the release of trust funds from the childrens' estate held in the Continental Fund.
Martha's husband and sons Marshall and Enoch are also buried in this cemetery. The Holme and Edwards families both had many affiliations with the Pennepack Church.

PENNSYLVANIA GAZETTE - Philadelphia, Mar. 5, 1775:
On Thursday, the 20th ult. departed this life, MRS. MARTHA EDWARDS, wife of Captain MARSHALL EDWARDS, of Biberry; and on Saturday following her remains were interred in the Baptist burying ground at Pennypack, when a sermon suitable to the occasion was delivered by the Reverend Mr. Samuel Jones, from Eccl. v 11. 2. It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting, for that is the end of all men, and the living will lay it to his heart. She was an affectionate wife, a tender mother, a kind mistress, a good neighbour, and being possessed of unfeigned piety, calmly resigned her breath and the protection of five small children to the unerring hand of her heavenly father.

"In memory of Martha the wife of Marshall Edwards who departed this life February 20, 1777. Aged 36 years."

It appears that she was 46 years old, based on her birth record: "Martha Holme ye daughter of John and Jaen Holme was born ye 28 of September annoq Dom 1731 on Tuesday about half an hour after 2 a'Clock in ye morning."
