KILLED WHILE MOWING,
Our Burlington Flats reporter says:
The death of John Hatcher, Sen., occured near Smithtown on the afternoon of
Friday. July 15, through his team of
horses running away with him while in
his mowing machine in the hayfield, on
his farm. He was a native of England,
and remembered as a boy of 11 years the
coronation of Victoria as queen, and he
lived within twenty miles of a royal residence
where the queen resided a good
deal of the time. Mr. Hatcher was a
man held in high respect by all who
knew him. He leaves a widow and family,
and much sympathy is felt for them
in the sad circumstances. He survived
only a few hours after the accident. He
was not thrown out of the machine but
met his injuries in it.
