Marie Wilks Ewing, passed away at 8:20 AM, Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at her residence in Moss Bluff. Marie and her husband, Rev. T. E. Ewing, evangelized several years prior to their move to the Lake Charles area in 1950, when they assumed the pastorate of the English Bayou Church, which later became known as the Eastwood Pentecostal Church. This small congregation of eighteen (18) members consistently grew throughout the years largely due to her great love for the people of her community. She always loved a stranger and reached out to befriend everyone she met. In addition to her role as pastor's wife, she taught Sunday School, served in the Hospital Ministry, and was leader of the Ladies Ministry, for many years. Of all the titles and responsibilities she carried, none more adequately described her than, "Woman of Prayer". Her great love for people drew her to her knees where she spent hours each day in prayer for her church and her community. She lived by the adage, "Cleanliness is next to Godliness," and her housekeeping skills, relative to both home and church, were legendary. Evidently, our heavenly mansions are now complete, and He has called in the "foreman" of the construction cleanup crew. She went on ahead of us to make sure everything was neat and tidy when we arrive. Her faithfulness to church was unequaled; her last attendance being the Sunday night service before her home going during which she was singly honored on Mother's Day. Truly, she was the "Mother" of Eastwood Pentecostal Church. There was also a "fun" side to Marie. She loved family vacations, camp outs, cooking meals for family and friends. Some of those good times included playing pranks on others, which she greatly enjoyed. Her warm, friendly personality and quick wit made her a favorite with many. She dearly loved her family, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the joys of her life. Greatly loved, she will be greatly missed! Survivors include one son, Reverend Murrell Ewing, Pastor of Eastwood Pentecostal Church of Lake Charles and wife Joan; two grandchildren, Landy Ewing and wife Lauren of Kansas City, KS and Vonnie Ewing Lopez and husband Aaron of Ragley; four great grandchildren, Matthew Christian Ewing and wife Natalie of Union City, CA, Taylor Miquell Ewing Trahan and husband Jimmy of Lake Charles, Aaron James "A. J." Ewing Lopez and Lindsey Brooke Lopez both of Ragley, LA; two brothers, Ezelle "Zack" Wilks of Gretna, LA and Ingram "Pete" Wilks of Santa Barbara, Ca. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Reverend T. E. Ewing, her parents, Zachary Taylor and Julia Lee Wilks; two sisters, Ruby Wilks Butler and Lilly Wilks Wright, and two brothers, Cecil Wilks and James Wilks. Her funeral will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Eastwood Pentecostal Church. Officiating will be her son, Pastor Murrell Ewing, Revs. T. F. Tenny, Anthony Mangun, and Kevin Cox. Burial will be in Ritchie Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Friday, and continue from 9:00 AM until time of services, Saturday, at the Eastwood Pentecostal Church.
