Peter Hatfield was born September 11, 1891 to Thomas and Clarissa (Hisel) Hatfield in the Town of Stark. He passed away Thursday, July 31, 1980 at the Vernon Memorial Hospital, Viroqua on the same day that committal services and burial were held for his wife at Afton. He was 88 years of age. On February 20, 1911, he married Ella Wagoner at Island Lake. They farmed in the LaFarge and surrounding area and in 1938 they moved into LaFarge. He then did carpenter and mason work. In 1940, they moved to LaCrosse and he worked in the round house for the Milwaukee Road. In 1951 they moved to Janesville and there he was employed at Fairbanks and Morris Machine Co. in Beloit. During that time they kept their home in LaFarge and in 1966, he retired and they moved back to LaFarge. Ella passed away January 30, 1970. On May 23, 1972 he married Myrtle Snow in Viroqua and they resided in LaFarge. Their deaths occured five days apart as she passed away July 26. Mr. Hatfield had been a member of the LaFarge Odd Fellows Lodge. He is survived by three sons, Eugene of Hillsboro, Buford of Olivet, Michigan, and Peter Jr. of Janesville; five daughters, Mrs. Eddie (Clarissa) Skarda of Viola, Mrs. Alma Skarda of Ontario, Mrs. Clarence (Frances) Stout of Cashton, Mrs. George (Gretchen) Boyington of Muskegon, and Mrs. Paul (Theo) Turner of Pecatonica, IL; a stepson, Lee Snow of Beloit; 28 grandchildren and 59 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Chase, Mrs. Dell Chesebro, and Mrs. Pearl Potter; three brothers, Charlie, Aaron, and John; also four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held Monday, August 4, 1980 at 2:00 p.m. in the LaFarge United Methodist Church. Rev. Fay Johnson officiated. Music was provided by Mrs. Ruth Johannesen and Mrs. Sandra Skarda. Burial was in the Bear Creek Cemetery. Seland Funeral Home of LaFarge was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers: Kenneth Hatfield, Gary Hatfield, Stanley Hatfield, Orval Hatfield, Michael Hatfield, Stanley Hatfield, and Peter G. Hatfield. Friends called at the Seland Funeral Home, LaFarge, on Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m., where a prayer service was held at 7:30 p.m.
