A couple years ago Mr. Pence was for a long time esperately ill with pneumonia and although he recovered at last, be was left in broken health. He was always a hard-working farmer, but after that spell of illness he retired from active life, renting out his farm, and spent a portion of his time in travel and in visiting among his
friends; He left home a few weeks ago for Eastern Virginia and had been at the home of Mr. Coffman about three weeks when his visit was cut short by death. Mr. Pence had not been well all week, having had a chill. Sunday night and another Monday night, but was apparently much better Friday and ate a harty supper that evening. He retired at 10 o'clock was was never seen alive again, Mr, Coffman finding him dead in bed tbe next morning.
The remains, in charge of Undertaker Pence of Montevideo, and accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Coffman, were brought across the mountain yesterday to Montevideo and will arrive early this morning at the home of the deceased. The
funeral will be conducted at, 10 o'clock this morning at tbe Cross Keys Presbyterian church by Rev. Geo. L. Brown.
Mr. Pence, who was in his 73d year, was a widower having lost his wife one year ago last March.
He leaves no children and few relatives.
Mr Coffman, at whose house be died, was a nephew of his wife.
