Joseph left the United States and moved to Toronto, Canada some time just before 1800. He met and married Lucretia Calkins Sly (formerly married to Joshua Sly). He petitioned more than once for lease rights to broken lake front property in Pickering until he was granted a lot in Concession 5 Section 28 where he set up a farm. They had 7 sons and raised them in Pickering, Ontario, Canada. Joseph served for at least a year as Sheriff in Pickering. He was a founding member of the little Christian church in Pickering. 6 of his sons left Pickering around 1838-1840 for the United States and their own opportunities. His son Daniel was the only one to remain in Canada where he raised his own family and his descendants are still in the area.
