Nathaniel Johnson Jr. and Mary Nye, married on Sept. 5, 1783, Hardwick, Worcester, Massachusetts. (1)

JOHNSON, NATHANIEL
Born in 1763. Died at Jamestown, N.Y., Oct. 31, 1826, while on a visit to his son, Forbes Johnson. Grave in Sinclairville Cemetery. (Among the earliest residents buried there, whose graves are marked) He enlisted in Portsmouth, N. H., Nov. 23, 1777, was mustered into service as a private by Joseph Cilley, Mustering Master, in the company of Capt. Henry Elkins, was at the battle of Saratoga and witnessed the surrender of Burgoyne.

He married Mary Nye, daughter of Jonathan Nye, who was also a soldier of the Revoluon. He emigrated to Western New York in 1813, coming through Buffalo while the ruins were smoking after the town was burned, settled for a time at Hamburg (Erie County, New York), Silver Creek, then Westfield and finally to Sinclairville where his friend and companion, Samuel Sinclair, who served in ihe same New Hampshire Reg't., had located.

His wife, Mary, died Dec. 11, 1838, aged 74 years.

Their daughter, Hannah, married Sylvanus L. Henderson, in 1816, and their son, William W. Henderson, born in 1828, was for many years prominent in the affairs of Chautauqua County. His death occurred in 1910.
