" Gus Pat Adams was not married and made his home with D. H. Hogan and family who lived on the Adams place near Chula.GA. He was born in Brooklyn, N. Y and was a painter and decorator when he came to South Georgia about 1898. He followed his profession many years and traveled about over this section from town to home and home to home. He made his headquarters around Chula, and it was at the home of William Branch near Chula that he was given the nickname "Pat" .
He worked for the Tifton Gazette newspaper for several years as country circulator and became a regular contributor under the pen name, "Smada". He attended family reunions, annual meetings, celebrations and the like and his writings of these were an interesting feature in the Gazette for many years. He was well known in Tift, Turner, and Irwin and a dozen other counties. He was well read, kept posted on politics and could converse intelligently with learned or ignorant on any subject. He was well known as a writer and speaker.
He was taken ill in Harrisburg, Va in the summer of 1933, returned home and was taken to the Coastal Plain Hospital and then to his home in Chula, where he died Nov. 24, 1933.
He had no family in this area, but was survived by three sisters: Mrs. Francis Hale, Brooklyn, N. Y. Mrs. Anna Gluckley of Hackensack, N. Y. and Mrs. Emma Bailey of Coscob, Conn."
