Albert Anderson Sr., 85, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2010. Graveside service: 11 a.m. Friday in Laurel Land Memorial Park. Open visitation: Thursday at Laurel Land Funeral Home of Fort Worth. Albert was born Aug. 22, 1924, to Maxcy and Malda Anderson in Marion, SC. He married Mary Frances McBride on July 22, 1944. Albert was a self-educated man who joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. He served on several ships, principally on the battleship USS Washington, which was credited with sinking the Japanese battleship Kirishima and the Japanese destroyer Ayanami. His working life was spent in Elkton, Va., as a chemical operator for the pharmaceutical company Merck Sharp & Dohme. He retired in 1983 after 38 years of dedicated service helping Merck be voted repeatedly the most admired company in America. Albert enjoyed reading, big band music and old-time television. Albert volunteered at Huguley Hospital for several years during his retirement. He loved to learn about history and spend time with his family. He also liked to collect model cars for himself and his great-grandchildren. He loved all of his family very dearly. He will be missed by many. Albert was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mary Frances Anderson; and siblings, Inez, Estelle, Maxcy, Catherine, Howard, Teena, Tinker and Aubrey. Survivors: Children, Nancy Reilly and husband, Tom, and Andy Anderson and wife, Paula; grandchildren, Tom Stoner and wife, Rosie, Vicki Holland and Jeff, and Amy Williams; great-grandchildren, Eric, Elisabeth, Tyler, Brianna, Lukas and Reece; and sisters, Hazel Bumstead of Florida and Elise Grainger and husband, Bill, of South Carolina.
