Fielding Turner was a cordwainer by trade. That is a boot and shoe maker of the finest quality.

His parents were James Hawley Turner, a resident of Guernsey County, Ohio, who was from Loudoun County, Virginia. His mother was Mary Hollar/Holler whose parents moved to Guernsey County, Ohio from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He was the oldest of their five children.

Fielding is found on the 1850 US Federal Census of Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Louisiana with his new wife Catherine Caroline Wilson age 17 from Sumter County, Alabama. She was the daughter of John H. Wilson and Sallie Denmark of Sumter County, Alabama.

They were married in Shreveport, Caddo, Louisiana 14 March 1850. In 1860 and 1870 they resided in Mobile, Alabama. Fielding operated a boot and shoe repair company located at 100 Govermnent Street.

They were the parents of five children:
