He played football for one year at Lake Forest Academy. He enlisted, and was a pilot in the U.S. Marines in the western Pacific in World War II. He married Jean Tennant 7 Dec 1943 while on leave from the Marines. They were both age 23. A member of the Marine Reserves, he was called up again for service in the Korean War, probably in 1952. The Robert B Rhode family visited the Spicer family in California in 1953. He returned from Korea in late 1954.
He attended business school, and was employed as an accountant for several businesses in Duluth. He worked for Zenith Dredge Company in Duluth for 15 years, and was also associated with Robert Hamilton Tennant I in his business affairs.
He retired 31 Dec 1986 and he and his wife spent summers in their home in Duluth and winters in a second home in Green Valley, Arizona, south of Tucson. He was an enthusiastic and skilled golfer.
He died 11 May 1996 at age 75 in St. Mary's Hospital in Tucson, Arizona, and was buried in Duluth, Minnesota.

Richard G. Spicer, 75, Duluth, died Saturday, May 11, 1996, in Green Valley, Ariz.
A lifelong Duluth resident, he graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1939 and attended Lake Forest Academy and the University of Minnesota. He married Jean Tenant [sic] in 1943. He was a captain in the Marine Corps and a bomber pilot in the Central Pacific during World War II. He also flew in Korea during the Korean War. He worked for Woodruff Lumber Co. until 1970, then became secretary-treasurer of Zenith Dredge and Arrowhead Blacktop. He was also a director and secretary-treasurer of Zenith Products in Osseo, Minn., and president of Polk Iron Co. He retired in 1985.
He was a member of St. Edward's Episcopal Church and Elks Lodge 403, and was awarded a lifetime membership at Ridgeview Country Club.
His parents were Dr. Frank W. and Madeline Miller Spicer. He is survived by his wife, Jean; two daughters, Lynn Spicer of Watertown, Wis., and Sara Spicer of Tucson, Ariz.; a son, David of Seattle; a brother, Dr. Frank W. of Duluth and Barbara S. MacGregor of Washington, D.C.; and two grandchildren.
