James M. Letts aged 73, of Ionia passed away May 10, 2010. He was born July 29, 1936 in Belding, Michigan. Jim was the oldest son of Paul and Norma (Andres) Letts. He married the love of his life Dorothy A Cook on May 5, 1956. She survives him along with brother Richard (Pat) Letts of Ionia; 3 daughters Lorene (Kim) Scott of Ionia, Terry (Steve) Dawson of Ionia, and Lisa (Bill) Bedard of Saranac; 9 grandchildren Erica, Kayla, Tyler, Justin, Andrea, Grant Katie, Riley and Wyatt and 2 great grandchildren Gabrielle and Alex.

Jim worked 41 years at Gen Corp and it's previous owners. He was very active in Local 420 UAW/AFL/CIO. He was also very active in the community having served on many boards- 30 years on the board of directors of Ionia County United Way, 25 years as chairman of the board of directors and past president . The past 10 years for D.H.S. in Ionia and Montcalm Counties, Ionia County Board of Canvassers, City of Ionia Board of Review, Literacy Council, Local 420 Retiree Council, and various other boards and groups.

Jim was very proud of the 47 years of service to the Boy Scouts of America. He received the "George Meany" Award from the national AFI/CIO and Boy Scouts of America for service to the youth in 1986. In 1989 he received the "Silver Beaver" Award from the Boy Scouts of America. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family in his spare time.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother in law Joan Carroll Richard Erridge, and his brother Larry Letts.

Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, 11:00 A.M. at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church with Father Tom Boufford celebrant. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday 2:00-4:00 P.M. and 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia. In lieu of flowers you may make memorial contributions to SS Peter & Paul School or Hospice of Ionia and Home Care of Ionia.
