Enlisted on 21 July 1862 into the 121st New York Volunteer Infantry, also known as Uptons's Regulars. We mustered in on 23 August into Capt. Henry Galpin's Co. A as a private. Went south with the regiment and particpated in all the major battles that the 6th Corp were engaged in. Some notable, being Antietam, Fredericksburg, the famous Burnside mud march out of their 1862-1863 winter camp at White Oak Church, across the river from Fredericksburgh, Gettysburg, Wilderness, etc.

He was mustered out on 25 July 1865 with the regiment at Hall's Hill, Virginia near Alexandria.

He followed farming. He was 5' 10" tall, light hair and complected and had blue eyes.
