Lena was the oldest child of William H. & Lochie (Butler) Caldwell. She graduated from Concord College in 1911 and was a school teacher like her father & sisters. She married dentist Donzie Lilly in Athens, WV on Oct. 29, 1913.
In Athens, she was a member of the Baptist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Matthew French Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the White Pine Garden Club. She received the Golden Alumni of the Year Award in 1969 from the Concord College Alumni Association.
