Daughter of William and Margaret Hobson Black. She marrried John Ward on 11 April 1833 in Greene County, Illinois. He died in 1834.

She then married Dr. John Hobson on 19 October 1836 in Greene County, Illinois. Dr. John and Elizabeth Hobson located near Alton, where farm property was purchased. Here a residence was made from 1849 until 1855, when the family settled near the village of Buckin, on the Grafton road, where farm property was purchased. Here were passed the last days of Dr. John Hobson, a most worthy gentleman of wealth, whose memory is cherished by many residents of Greene County. The family now consisted of Mrs. Hobson and Edward, an only child. Mrs. H. having relatives at Carrollton, decided to make her home there.
