Florence Marie George Fidler was born on December 17, 1925, in the small village of Mohegan, Rhode Island. She was the youngest daughter of Wilbur and Agnes (Savoie) George. Her siblings were Raymond George, Dorothy George Mousseau and Norman George. She attended St. Theresa's School in Nasonville, RI, and Burrillville High School in Harrisville, RI.

During World War II, she worked at the Stillwater Worsted Mill in Harrisville, RI, which manufactured cloth for the uniforms of members of the Armed Forces. She also worked for Industrial National Bank in Pascoag, RI.

In 1954, she met Petty Officer Third Class Joseph Fidler of the USS Yosemite in Newport. Three years later, on January 12, 1957, they were married and honeymooned in New York City.

Florence and Joseph had three children: Neil in 1962, William in 1964 and Kimberly in 1965.

After moving to West Virginia in December 1965, Florence worked at the Davis Memorial Hospital as a Nurse's Aide. Upon returning to Rhode Island in 1972, Florence worked as a Teacher's Aide at Zambarano Hospital in Burrillville, RI where she retired in 1986.

Florence was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Theresa's Church in Nasonville. She loved the company of her family, and also loved to crochet and play the piano. She was also an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.

Shortly after her husband Joe passed away in January on 1998, Florence passed away on September 16, 1999, after a long fight with breast cancer. She is survived by her children Neil, William and Kimberly and their spouses as well as her three grandchildren, Leah, Josh and Katie.
