From age 18 years onward as a career military commander in World War I. and World War II., Generalleutnant Buelowius was post commander of German Panzer engineers in von Manteuffel's division under the direct and overall command of Field Marshall Rommel in North Africa. Omar Bradley's II Corps captured him 9 May 1943 near the end of the North Africa campaign and he was a POW for almost 2 years before he took his own life by hanging at Camp Forrest near Tullahoma, Tennessee. He was originally buried there in Cemetery No.1. before being removed here.
