Born Mary Joan Kennedy, she was the beloved youngest child of Almet and Mildred (nee Hill) Kennedy. Mary Joan's life was cut short following a tragic automobile accident near the family's farm which also resulted in her sister's Jean's paralysis. At first doctors felt that she was fine, however internal organ damage lead to her death. At the time of her death she was a student at Scott Township School at Kirkpatrick, Ohio, and involved with the Methodist Episcopal Church in Kirkpatrick.
