Nettie was the daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Moore Thornton from New York and Ohio with siblings: Haley, James, Ben, Chester, and Laura. Her father was a farmer. Nettie married Henry Hufford on 30 September 1880 in Wood County, and they had Dorothy (1882), Roy (1884-1942), Katherine (1885), Mary (1887), Joseph (1889), Aurilla (1891). Elmer (1896), and Vera (1902). Nettie died from paralysis at the age of 45 years 8 months and 13 days.
