Henry Boyd, a native of County Antrim, Ireland, was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Boyd. The family had come to America prior to 1850, and eventually settled in Illinois. He joined the 100th Illinois Volunteer Infantry, Company E, at Joliet, Illinois on August 30th, 1862. Henry died at Chattanooga, Illinois on August 2, 1864, one of 200 men in his unit to succumb to battle wounds or disease. He is buried at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. (which has his date of death listed incorrectly at 8/2/1865)
