Herbert Tabor

NEW MIDDLETOWN - Herbert E. Tabor, Sr., 78, of 10532 Struthers Road, New Middletown, and a former lifelong resident of New Springfield, passed away at 6:40 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at Assumption Village in North Lima. He had been there for eight days.

Mr. Tabor was born on May 26, 1926, in Coaldale, W.Va., the son of James and Katy Barrett Tabor.

He had been employed at Norfolk & Western Railroad, Youngstown Sheet & Tube and L.T.V. He retired in 1984.
He was a member of the New Springfield Church of God, where he was active in the Men's Group and was a past deacon and trustee. He was also a member of the Springfield Local Volunteer Fire Department and an active member of the United Steel Workers Youngstown Local Chapter where he was a past union representative.

He was a retired Naval Veteran having served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.

He was survived by his wife, Eleen E. Bell, whom he married Oct. 27, 1947; two daughters, Mrs. Jim (Valarie) Smotrila of Leetonia and Mrs. Bill (Sherie) Klim of New Middletown; a son, Herb (Sharon) Tabor, Jr. of Warren; a sister, Louise (Hampton) Hill of Bluefield, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at the New Springfield Church of God with the Rev. Ron Wamer officiating. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery in New Middletown, where military honors will be presented by the Benjamin Firestone Post #290 of Columbiana.Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at the New Springfield Church of God. The family suggests that material tributes be made to the church. Arrangements are being handled by Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima. 9/29/04
