Thomas H. Brown, Jr., M.D., 88, of Napoleon, OH and formerly of Perrysburg, died on Wednesday, March 17, 2010.

He was born in Toledo, Ohio, to Drs. Thomas H. and Catherine Acklen Brown.

He graduated from DeVilbiss High School and received his B.A. and M.D. degrees from Vanderbilt University and served three years as a medical officer in the U.S. Navy.

His orthopedic residencies were served at New York Orthopedic Hospital in New York City and then a year at San Diego County Hospital in trauma and a year of hand surgery with Dr. Ben Fowler in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dr. Brown practiced orthopedic surgery with his father in Toledo, was assistant Clinical Professor at Medical College of Ohio and was Chief of Orthopedic Service at Toledo Hospital.

His membership included Fellowship as a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon in the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and in the Ohio, Tri-State and Mid-American Orthopedic Societies.

For many years, he was team doctor for the University of Toledo, a trustee at the Boys and Girls Club of Toledo and past membership in the Toledo Rotary Club.

He enjoyed golf, hunting and especially his time at Red Gate Farm in Henry County.

He was preceded in death by the loss of his loving wife of 61 years, Suzanne Caldwell Brown, in 2006 and his three sisters - Catherine (Charles) Heffron, Janet (Dave) Smith and Ann (Jim) Mays.

A loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he is survived by his three children, Carol (Fred) Dannemann, Thomas C. (Laura) Brown and Joanne (Geoffrey) Glover; grand children, Lisa Dannemann, Jennifer (Matt) Ferency, Katherine Brown, Thomas C. Brown, Jr., and Suzanne Jaber; and three great-grandchildren, Alex, McKenna and Xia Ferency.

According to his wishes, there will be no visitation and services will be private for the immediate family. Funeral arrangements were entrusted in Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, Perrysburg (419-874-3133.)

Those who wish may contribute to the Boys and Girls Club of Toledo, The Toledo Rotary or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
