Born Marica Mikan, Mary Staresinic was the eldest daughter of Ana (Makar) and Ivan Mikan. She and her mother, stepfather and sister immigrated to the United States in 1971, settling in Kansas City, Kansas. She married Miroslav Staresinic in 1974. She died of complications of multiple sclerosis. She is survived by her husband, her children, Diana Staresinic-Deane and David Staresinic, and two grandchildren.
