Caroline Flener Deweese, the daughter of Adam Flener and Sarah (Heavren) Billings, was born January 22, 1856 in Bowling Green, Warren County, Kentucky. She was the first wife of John Wesley DeWeese, the son of Pierson Miller DeWeese and Celia Jane Smith of Butler County, Kentucky. They were married there on November 1, 1871 and were the parents of 6 daughters and six sons, who were born between 1872 and 1900. The surviving children were: Martha Prudence (Simpson), James M., Robert M., Ray E., Charles E. and D. Morgan Deweese. Caroline Flener Deweese died on January 3, 1930. She was buried in the Olive Branch Cemetery in Olive Branch, Alexander County, Illinois. Her husband John Wesley Deweese joined her there the following year after his death on September 27, 1931.
